Paradise Lost By Milton Paradise Lost, reaches out and pulls in references and allusions to other literary works, making it Milton's most influential piece of literary work. The writing echoes primary epic and the epic's elevated language of describing people and events in great detail and in super realistic terms. Primary epic often uses nature as a simile, as with the line, "Thick with autumnal leaves that strew the brook."(303). This line portrays an image of thousands of dead, brown, wet, and muddy leaves, which add more depth to the portrait of the fallen angels described in the passages from lines 299-313. To assert this description further, Milton uses references to specific places to affirm and reinforce the grand stature of the characters to whom he is referring. For example, the demons are, "High over-arched embower; or scattered sedge / Afloat, when with fierce winds Orion armed / Hath vexed the Red Sea coast," (304-06). Orion armed is associated with seasonal storms and The Red Sea in Hebrew is called The sea of sedge. These two images when combined, add a fierce and grimy portrait of these fiends. They seem to be hovering, and waiting for the right moment to generate chaos in the world G-d has thrown them down to. Milton has, in this passage, begun the process of characterization of these demons. He endows Satan with heroic qualities and his cohorts emerge as militant followers of a stately, yet ominous leader. Although Satan has heroic qualities and his angels are portrayed as evil warriors, Milton often has these rebellious angels remember what they have lost and given up. This helps to express the nature of their evil. Each demon is aware of their condition and their transgression from Heaven to Hell and they are, "Under amazement of their hideous change." (313). The main theme of the poem as a whole, is the examination of the origin of human Christian civilization, the emergence of evil, and how evil forces secure themselves into the world in the first place. The question of why G-d has allowed this evil to emerge and what is G-d's solution, is answered through Milton's similes and references to historical events. For instance, Milton refers to the Biblical event of the Exodus, by describing how multitudes of fallen angels chased the Hebrew children through the Red Sea: "The sojourners of Goshen, who beheld / From the safe shore their floating carcasses / And broken chariot wheels;" (310-11). Besides the "broken chariot wheels;"(311) being another simile to the sheer quantity of the fallen angels, the reference to the event of the Passover suggests that, although G-d has allowed for a certain amount of evil to take place, in the end his omnipotence will ultimately divert Satan and the deception he has devised. Although G-d's actions may seem unjust, He has made provisions for the evil through Christ. The passage within the poem reflects the evil nature of Satan, prior tohis plan to corrupt the innocence of Adam and Eve. To supplement this evil, Milton uses strong language such as "vexed" and "fierce." He uses word combinations to describe the physical and the ethereal. For example, "Perfidious hatred" is used to describe the motivation behind the pursuit of the Hebrew children in the Exodus. By using strong language and similes to nature, Milton has established in his descriptions, an epic tradition.

Hebrew Bible Essay I attended the First Baptist Church this last week. The message the pastor shared was from the book of Proverbs. This is the Old Testament of our scriptures. The Old Testament was incorporated into the service by the Pastor in way of introduction. The pastor will stand before the congregation and ask them to turn to a certain passage. The passage he directed us all to this week was Proverbs 8:32-35. The passage is talking about finding wisdom wisdom in the Lord. The Pastor taught on how that passage is just as true to the listener today as it was in times past. When we find that wisdom we listen to that wisdom and we remain obedient to that wisdom then we receive favor from the Lord. This applied thousands of years ago when the Hebrew King David wrote the Proverbs and it applies today. The writings of the Hebrew Bible are as applicable today as they were thousands of years ago. The God of our Bible Old and New Testaments is the same today and yesterday. Applying the lessons from His scripture is the right thing to do -as much today as yesterday. Verse 33 in the reading directs the reader to not turn away from wisdom. That applies to everyone’s life. Makes no difference if one is a believer in the writings of the Hebrew Bible or not. Literary Paper of The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck Steinbeck wrote many wonderful books but a great classic is one titled The Grapes of Wrath. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

First of all Mercutio is considered a character foil in the play because he only sees love in a physical way. In contrast Romeo thinks love is supposed to be romantic. In Act I, Scene 4, Mercutio’s speech about Queen Mab indicates that he is does not know of Romeo’s pure love. â€Å"O then I see Queen Mab hath been with you†¦This is she† (1.4.23-24) Romeo is about to tell Mercutio about a dream that he had. Mercutio interrupts Romeo of what he was going to say about his dream and tell him about Queen Mab. In Mercutio’s speech he thinks of love comes from Queen Mab being a dream fairy. She gives people dreams and decides what they will dream about.For example women dream of kisses and priests’ dream of tithes, lawyers’ dream of money. This speech shows Mercutio just does not get the romantic part of love. He does not believe in dreams. The references to the body show the physical realities of life as opposed to the ideals that Romeo holds . This speech shows much about the fiery spirit of Mercutio, but it also suggests a more brutal and realistic view of life, contrasting with the romantic of love. So the play using minor characters is a success because Mercutio helps make the pure love for Romeo and Juliet. Second of all Friar Lawrence is a mentor to Romeo and Juliet, but a poor planner.This character also leads to the success of the play. The friar marries Romeo to Juliet and he constantly advises them to act more with caution and provides plans to Romeo and Juliet. In act 4 scene 1 the friar says â€Å"take thou this vial being in bed/And this distilling liquor drink thou off† (4.1.93-101). When Paris wants to marry Juliet, the friar expresses his disapproval of the wedding. When Paris leaves, Juliet asks the Friar for help. The friar provide a plan. The plan includes using the drug for Juliet and deliver the message to Romeo. The friar attempts to make the marriage of Romeo and Juliet is very admirable but are poorly planned.The tragedy of their deaths could not have happened if Romeo have received the message in time. This is due to Friar Lawrence not planning how he is going to fake Juliet's death. It directly  leads to the tragedy in the play. Third of all the nurse makes comic relief by making a lot of inappropriate speeches. The nurse provides a contrast with Juliet because of the nurse’s view which if love is sexual, while Juliet’s way is all romantic. â€Å"If ye should lead her into a fool’s paradise/ it were a very gross kind of behavior† (2.4.151-52). The nurse act as Juliet’s mother. She cares for Juliet and her entire life. The Nurse is loyal to Juliet and she keeps the secret marriage a secret. The Nurse believes in love and wants Juliet to have a nice-looking guy, but the idea is that Juliet would sacrifice anything for love to Romeo. The nurse is the success to the play because there is humor to the play.In act 1 Mercutio to Romeo a nd Juliet strong   because the play shows Romeo is on a quest for love. When Romeo talks about he is love sick for Rosaline and Benvolio makes him look at another girl and Mercutio says â€Å"[Romeo is] a lover borrow cupid’s wings and soar with them above a common bound† (1.4.21-16). The importance of this quote is because he trying cheer Romeo up from being love sick. The quote shows the success of the play because of Mercutio being a minor does not understand the romantic part of love.In act 2 Mercutio thinks Romeo is still love sick over Rosaline but the when Romeo gets back from Friar Lawrence’s place which Mercutio does not know And sees Mercutio and he is all of a sudden happy. After Romeo says hi to Mercutio and he says â€Å"that’s as much as to say such a case as (Romeo’s) constrains a man to bow in the hams† (2.4.47-52). The importance of this quote is because when Romeo says hi to Mercutio so he is wondering why Romeo is all ha ppy. The quote shows the success of the play by using minor characters because Romeo was lovesick and all of a sudden he becomes happy so Mercutio thinks he made Rosaline like him. So the play using minor characters is a success because Mercutio helps make the pure love for Romeo and Juliet.He creates conflict by agreeing to marry Romeo and Juliet so he says â€Å"For this alliance may be so happy prove to turn [their] households’ rancour to pure love† (2.3.44-90). The importance of this quote is that He agrees to marry Romeo to Juliet because he sees it as a chance to bring back the families together. It is successful to the play using minor characters  because he is not supposed to marry them but he does it any way. He’s basically helping Romeo and Juliet even though their enemies.

Curling Up with a Book

Curling up with a book requests time and solitude, demands our full attention and requires us to get into the reading. First of all, in order to curl up with a book, one should be isolated in his/her free time when there are no disturbances at all. It's necessary to read in your free time because It Is the time when you have nothing on mind. This Is very helpful since our mind would be empty of Issues and worries of our dally life. It also needs a comfortable place and environment to be able to focus on the reading; It Is necessary to be alone when It comes for reading.It has happened to me that I can't read anything in the college because there have been a lot of distractions; for example, the noisy atmosphere, electronic devises, too many people walking by and others. I'd rather wait until I arrive at my house; I would immediately go to my room with no interruptions, so I can read in silence and concentrate. It is not something to pity about as compared when someone is eating alone in the restaurant or watching the movie alone on a Valentine's Day.Solitary reading is the first requirement to curl up with a kook: â€Å"Our hearts go out to them, but reading, by definition, can only be done alone. Losing concentration is very easy in the Internet beca use someone can send you an instant message, and you might want to surf for a while in the web. However, reading a book is always better; reading can take readers to an imaginary place that the Internet can never take you.Although the Internet provides us with many deferent kind of information, reading through the website will never give us the experiences and feelings that a book can give us. For example, when we read, we are connected with he reading since we are actually touching the book; also we can easily dullness the author's perspective. Just like the author Carol Shields (1997) said that we can bytes and texts; also by reading we can find out the tone, formal order, voice and the persuasion of the reading: â€Å"A written text, as opposed to electronic information, has formal order, tone, voice, irony, persuasion.We can inhabit a book; we can possess it and be possessed by it† (p. 249). Finally when someone reads, one should be part of the reading; furthermore, someo ne can get inside the reading and experience special linings and moments along with the main character. For instance, I have experienced this when I read â€Å"I'm a Banana and Proud of It† by Ways Choc; I felt like I was in the author's position since I also look like a Chinese, but my native country is not China.Nowadays, adults are so busy that they have almost no time to think of reading a book. They have more important things to do and to worry of, especially for the people that are not wealthy. The students are also occupied in their study, and if they ever have time, they will spend it in their social life rather than staying at home to read a book. Before one begin to describe the aspects of the case study provided, a brief overview about the concept of organization behaviour must be discussed.    Organisational behavior mainly pays importance on the topics like influence of personality on performance, motivation of employees and also creating effective teams and workplace groups that when work in harmonious situations will result in producing the best productivity for an organization (Miner 2015). It made them to think that they have to struggles in their pany and would always be judges in their merit which increased pressure on them and thereby became demotivated. This resulted in increase of the attrition rate of the organization. Another reason that can be noted here was that the behavior of the workers of XYZ developed very negative feelings about their new authority which had a very negative impact on their own work and thereby affected the organization’s productivity. The workers got depressed and also frustrated because the new authority was not paying heed to the workers’ welfare and betterment and only set their aim on the process of integration. They pletely neglected the quality of work that the workers were exhibiting and also did not take into account the pany’s long term profits. As a result the loyalty that the workers used to show their previous authority were gradually declining for their new authority and heir morale started to dwindle. Such kind of development of feelings should strictly been avoided by the new authority as it we es loss and increases turnover rates (Green berg 2013). Another important element of organizational behavior is values. Values are the attributes that an individual or an organization carries as as an integral part of existence and may vary from one to another. It is often defined as the main basis of attitude and motivation. In the case provided, the main reason for the arrival of different issues were that there was no similarity with the values shared by the Big Energy pany and that by the workers of the XYZ. As a result, feuds with the supervisors were in constancy and therefore it did not yield any positive result been when Sally tried to argue with them over the harmful effects of the integration model of the authority. The integration model implemented by the Big Energy affected the inter-personal relationships of the workers with that of the employers asking a big question on the effectiveness of managerial leaderships. The employees felt that their wishes and requirement were disrespected and these severe issues forced them to le ave the pany one by one. It also showed that the new authority could not implement proper human resource management skill and therefore could not establish a proper relationship with the employees which would have brought much more productivity (Champoux 2016). This case study portray the importance of knowledge about the macro organizational behavioral theory refereeing to entire organizations and also industries and their operations and not the Micro organizational behavior theory that pays heed to individual or group behavior as a whole. Organisational culture is the system of shared values, assumptions and beliefs that help a particular individual in an organization to properly evaluate what kind of behaviors are wanted by the organizations (DuBrin 2013). If one wants to portray the bigger picture, it can be explained that both the employees and the new employer were not being able to harmonize. This is mainly because both of them were failing to catch hold of each other’s techniques and models of organizational behavior (Greenberh and Colquitt 2013). This resulted in huge negative impact on the performance of the workers and hence the productivity. In place Big Energy should have set up a proper and critically analyzed approach to integrate the acquired employees in such a way so that they could have developed proper relationship and also would make them fortable and thereby feel included in organizations’ mission and vision. Big Energy should have recognized that human resource make the foundation of the organization and therefore should have taken effective steps to manage them effectively and create an easy pathway to success rather than neglecting the voice of the workers and overpowering them. 2.The acquisition of XYZ Energy by Big Energy though seems to be a good fit, there lies more to it than the same vertical of business. The acquisition can be better explained with the help of the Corporate Parenting Matrix which shows a relation between the fit and misfit of parenting and strategic characteristics. The acquisition is in the quadrant of the Value Trap i.e. Big Energy was able to recognize the process values and technological importance of XYZ Energy, but it was unable to create an integration model which can sustain this acquisition in the long term. Big Energy which had been keen on only acquiring the technology, patents and innovations made the workforce of XYZ energy redundant to their own business model. It must be noted that long term petitive advantage can’t be sought after by myopic scenario planning (Greenberg and Coloquitt 2013). It is quite evident that with employee dissonance prevailing in an organization, it is bound to crumble sooner or later. The attitude and values of the XYZ employees have been hurt and no recognition has been paid to these employees. The senior management at XYZ had also faced the brunt once the acquisition was in full swing. With the redundancy of the senior management, the employees who were still surviving with XYZ very well knew that they were on the verge of colliding with the end of their careers at XYZ Energy. Big Energy in order to make the acquisition fall in the category of ‘Heartland’ needs to realize that the foundation of an organization is its human resource – it’s the people in the organization who form the culture have be liefs and possess values. Big Energy till now has miserably failed in prehending the organizational behavior scope of XYZ Energy. The downturn came about when Big Energy failed to understand the emotions of the employees who stayed back and were even little bothered to bring in the change management effectively in order to mold behavior and attitudes. Big Energy must pay close heed to the models of Organizational Behavior and implement the following to get the desired results. Supportive Model: The model thrives under effective leadership styles. Big Energy management should be on the lookout for the remaining XYZ employee needs so that organizational performance can be met. The respective leaders must support their fellow team mates to develop their skills and promote awakening motivational drives among them so as to orient them towards favorable results (Lee and Selart 2015). Collegial Model: This model encourages a sense of partnership in the organization. Working as a team is the right approach where team mates are self-disciplined and self-actualized. Big Energy must motivate XYZ employees to work closely Big Energy employees as teams so that there is diversity in teams and idea generation can be more frequent. Big Energy must also bring about an intra-organizational petitive environment which shall motivate XYZ employees to perform better, more enthusiastically, aligned towards desired organizational goals (Goestch and Davis 2014). System Model: The model is based upon the power of trust, munity and belongingness. The managerial orientation is passionate and caring which drives employees to being self-motivated, passionate towards achieving desired organizational results. Big Energy must ensure that employees are provided enough liberty to bring their thoughts on the table to initiateteam building and brain storming activities. Big Energy management needs to portray the right vibes of mutual trust with the remaining XYZ employees so that employees can recognize their own psychological ownership of the firm and work towards the betterment of the same. This would initiate a higher morale in the employees as they can feel their own relevance and authority in the organization (Grant 2016). It must be realized that all strategies are not the best fits for Big Energy management. A framework of the strategies has been provided with indicative approaches.
